Over dit evenement
Take your musical beats to a different level, and learn about the Indian Rhythmic Cycles. Explore with us the Indian concepts of Laya (use of tempo) and Taal (the nature within order an order of beats).
Anand Mishra ji , the son of the very well known tabla player, (Pt. Iswarlal Mishra) has, from an early age, been saturated in the world of Taal and Laya. In playing Sitar to a very high level his performances rely on perfectlty mapping of a wide range of rhythms.
In this event we will first explore basic principles within Tin Taal (a common 16 beat cycle) and its markers; Sum and Khali use to track the cycles as they go. We will also touch on understandings to do with with tempo and speed; known in Indian music as the "Madhya", "Vilambit" and "Drut Layas". Depending on the group we could branch to develop further understandings beyond Tin Taal into other cycles; Jhaptal -10, Chartaal-12, Ektaal-10, Rupak-7, Dadra-6 and others as required).
Anyone interested in exploring rhythms will gain something from this rare and fascinating one-off event. We are are sure everyone will come away with having had a transformative experience provided by our very knowledgable teacher, Dr. Anand Kumar Mishra. If you have Tabla then you are most welcome to bring them, but any drum, as well as just you hands for clapping out the rhythms, will suffice. Anand will also show us how these rhythms are applied within musical compositions. This workshop will take your music making to a new level.
The workshop is participatory; however a non participatory, uninteruptive ordiance, is also welcome.
