Contact Improvisation Groningen

Contact improvisation is a dance form with its roots in contemporary dance. Starting with experiments by professional dancers, it slowly developed into what it is today. Since it is not a copyrighted dance form, it continues to evolve. Every teacher teaches a different style, a different nuance, adding new things from own experiences. In Groningen, Otto teaches contact improvisation classes/courses and organises jams.

Classes/courses
My approach in classes is partly the basics (giving weight, feeling yourself and the other, basic lifting), and partly focusses on experiencing the dance and your body in the dance with a partner. Letting go of thoughts - the less thoughts the better the dance and breathing slow and deep to keep the dance effortless. Getting a smile on the face after the class or jam, feeling your body and totally alive!

Jams
Jams usually start with 20-30 minutes of warm-up together with some basic contact improvisation exercises, to get warm, get into your body and getting used to dancing in contact with other people. After that, the floor is free to dance with others or just by yourself, whatever you need.
