Yoga Concert | poetry, yin yoga and live music with Couple Positive

Live geïmproviseerde muziek en een yin yogales verstrengelen rond mystieke poëzie voor een diepe reis naar binnen. De magie van de yogaconcerten strijkt deze zomer neer in het Amstelpark. Op deze vrijdagavond zal Couple Positive (Ania Brzezinska & Hassie Dune) hun improvisaties naar de mat brengen, tussen de kwebbelende vogeltjes, de scharrelende eekhoorns en de ronkende vliegtuigen. André Meeusen bouwt zijn yogales op rond een gedicht.

Verbinding
Met een gloedvol optreden liet Couple Positive bij hun debuut voor Song of Yoga horen waarom verbinding een sleutelwoord is in hun kraam. Na hun conservatoriumtijd speelden beide muzikanten in diverse bands, waarmee zij over de hele wereld tourden, niet alleen door westerse landen, ook in Afrika, het Midden-Oosten, India en Latijns-Amerika. Deze invloeden klinken door in hun stijl, en bracht nieuwe instrumenten in hun bagage. Ania speelt naast trompet handpan en didgeridoo. Hassie, ooit basgitarist van Zuco 103, ging zich toeleggen op de n’goni, een Afrikaanse harp. De muzikale traditie van de West-Afrikaanse vertelcultuur werd een nieuw referentiepunt, met een sterk meditatieve kant. Samen creëren ze klankbaden en begeleiden ceremonies en meditaties, waarbij tal van kleine instrumenten behulpzaam zijn, zoals klankschalen, de shruti box, drums en fluiten. Zo zullen zij deze vrijdagavond in het Amstelpark hun eigen Song of Yoga spelen: verstilling die verbinding brengt.

Wat is een yogaconcert?
Een concert, poëzievoordracht en yin yogales in één – dat is de formule van de yogaconcerten. De kalme, meditatieve en tegelijk intense houdingen van yin yoga geven de mogelijkheid om dieper in het bewustzijn te zakken, voorbij de denkpatronen van de geest. Op de yogamat verweven fysieke sensaties zich met de muzikale improvisaties. Gedachten bedaren, waardoor ruimte ontstaat voor een open ontmoeting: de live geïmproviseerde muziek, de yogahoudingen en mystieke poëzie bundelen samen, werken op elkaar in en versterken elkaar voor een reis naar binnen.

Praktische info
Op het Stadshout Paviljoen staat een overdekte piano, voor de yogamatjes is ruimte onder de blote hemel, op een stenen ondergrond. Als regen voorspeld wordt, zal twee uur van tevoren een mailbericht worden verstuurd of het yogaconcert wel of niet doorgaat (tickets krijg je terug of kun je gebruiken voor een andere keer). Een afgelasting zal ook op de website en op Facebook vermeld worden.

Neem een matje mee, en eventueel een waterflesje en props zoals een zitkussentje, blok en/of een dekentje. De instructies en poëzie zijn tweetalig. Vanaf 18:45 uur ben je welkom om een plaatsje te zoeken. Er zijn parkeerplaatsen langs de autoweg/fietsbaan langs het park, vanaf 19 uur is parkeren gratis. Het Amstelpark is open tot een half uur vóór zonsondergang.

Live improvised music and a yin yoga class intertwine around mystical poetry for a deep journey inside. The magic of the yoga concerts boards at the Amstel park this summer. This Friday evening, Couple Positive (Ania Brzezinska & Hassie Dune) will bring their improvisations to the mat, playing between the chattering birds, hopping squirrels, and grumbling aeroplanes. André Meeusen builds his yoga class around a poem.

Connection
A glowing performance at their debut for Song of Yoga showed why connection is key for Couple Positive. After their conservatorium years, both played in various bands, touring around the world, not only in western countries, also in Africa, the Middle East, India, and Latin America. These influences reflect in their musical style, and brought new instruments in their luggage. Besides trumpet, Ania plays hang and didgeridoo. Hassie, in a previous life bass guitar player of Zuco 103 and Sinas, devoted himself to the n’goni, an African harp. The musical storytelling culture of West Africa became a new reference point, with a strong meditative side. Together they create sound baths and guide ceremonies and meditations, with help of various other small instruments, like sound bowls, the shruti box, drums and flutes. This Friday evening, they will play their own Song of Yoga: a serenity that brings connection.

What is a yoga concert?
A concert, poetry performance, and a yin yoga class in one. This is the formula of the yoga concerts. The calm, meditative but intense postures of yin yoga allow to sink deeper into consciousness, beyond the patterns of the mind. On the yogamat, physical sensations weave together with musical improvisations. The mind becomes quieter, opening space to meet the music and poetry in the heart. In this way, the live improvised music, yoga postures, and mystical poetry intertwine, affect, and strengthen each other for a journey inside.

Practical info
The 'Stadshout Paviljoen' shelters a piano, the yoga mats find space on a stone underground, under the open sky. If rain is forecasted, two hours in advance an email will be send whether the yoga concert will take place (tickets can be refunded or exchanged for another yoga concert). A cancellation will be announced on the website and Facebook as well.

Bring your mat, and if you like some props like a pillow, block and/or a blanket. Instructions and poetry will be bilingual. From 18:45 onwards you are welcome to find your spot. Parking places for cars are available along the street/bike road along the park, parking is free from 19:00 onwards. The Amstel park is open until half an hour before sunset.
