Yoga Concert | poetry, yin yoga and live music with the HA!Man

Live geïmproviseerde muziek en een yin yogales verstrengelen rond mystieke poëzie voor een diepe reis naar binnen. De magie van de yogaconcerten strijkt deze zomer neer in het Amstelpark. Deze vrijdagavond zal de Zuid-Afrikaanse cellist en pianist HA!Man zijn improvisaties naar de mat brengen, tussen de kwebbelende vogeltjes, de scharrelende eekhoorns en de ronkende vliegtuigen. André Meeusen bouwt zijn yogales op rond een gedicht.

Een plaats van stilte
De HA!Man (geboren als Francois le Roux) is een troubadour, die de hele wereld over reist als onafhankelijk musicus, waarbij hij jaarlijks verschillende maanden doorbrengt in zowel Europa als Zuid-Afrika, en soms tournees houdt in Amerika en Azië. ‘Een van Zuid-Afrika’s meest getalenteerde artiesten,’ stelde de Zuid-Afrikaanse krant Die Burger, ‘hij gebruikte fluit, cello en piano om zijn publiek bijna in trance te brengen.’ En het weekblad Talk of the Town schreef dat hij ‘de moderne Zuid-Afrikaanse muziek herdefinieert,’ waarbij de recensent onder de indruk was van zijn kwaliteit en originaliteit: ‘Het gebeurt zelden dat een artiest zoveel van zichzelf in een optreden legt.’
Zijn artiestennaam geeft uitdrukking aan zijn spontane manier van muziek maken, een creativiteit die voortspruit uit een gevoelsstroom, een adem: HA! De vele recensies op zijn website hamanworld.com getuigen van de transformatieve en helende kracht van zijn muziek, die bezoekers na een optreden veranderd achterlaat. ‘Ik ben nog steeds verbijsterd,’ schreef iemand, ‘Je muziek opende een deur naar een plaats van stilte.’
Op zijn website vertelt hij hoe hij ieder concert alles loslaat om steeds weer opnieuw te beginnen. Een Song of Yoga met de HA!Man betekent daarom vooral een duik in het onbekende - een tasten dat begint met een Ha! en leidt naar een stilte, waartussen alles mogelijk is.

Yin yoga
De kalme, meditatieve en tegelijk intense houdingen van yin yoga geven de mogelijkheid om dieper in het bewustzijn te zakken, voorbij de denkpatronen van de geest. Op de yogamat verweven fysieke sensaties zich met de muzikale improvisaties. Gedachten bedaren, waardoor ruimte ontstaat om de muziek en poëzie open en vanuit het lichaam te ontmoeten.

Praktische info
Op het Stadshout Paviljoen staat een overdekte piano, voor de yogamatjes is ruimte onder de blote hemel, op een stenen ondergrond. Als regen voorspeld wordt, zal twee uur van tevoren een mailbericht worden verstuurd of het yogaconcert wel of niet doorgaat (tickets krijg je terug of kun je gebruiken voor een andere keer). Een afgelasting zal ook op de website en op Facebook vermeld worden.

Neem een matje mee, en eventueel een waterflesje en props zoals een zitkussentje, blok en/of een dekentje. De instructies en poëzie zijn tweetalig. Vanaf 18:45 uur ben je welkom om een plaatsje te zoeken. Er zijn parkeerplaatsen langs de autoweg/fietsbaan langs het park, vanaf 19 uur is parkeren gratis. Het Amstelpark is open tot een half uur vóór zonsondergang.

Live improvised music and a yin yoga class intertwine around mystical poetry for a deep journey inside. The magic of the yoga concerts boards at the Amstel park this summer. This evening, the South African cellist and pianist HA!Man brings his improvisations to the mat, between the chattering birds, hopping squirrels, and grumbling aeroplanes. André Meeusen builds his yoga class around a poem.

A place of silence
The HA!Man (born as Francois le Roux) is a troubadour, traveling throughout the world as an independent musician, spending several months a year in both Europe and South Africa, and occasionally also in America and Asia. ‘One of South Africa's most talented performers,’ national newspaper Die Burger portrayed him, ‘he used flute, cello and piano to captivate his audience into a near trance.’ And the weekly Talk of the Town wrote he ‘redefines the modern South African musical genre’, as the reviewer was impressed by his quality and originality: ‘It is seldom that artists give so much of themselves in a performance.’
His artist name expresses his spontaneous way of music making, a creativity springing from a flow of feeling, a breath: HA! The many reviews on his website hamanworld.com testify of the transforming and healing power of his music, leaving visitors changed after the performance. ‘I am still astonished,’ someone wrote, ‘Your music opened a door to a place of silence.’
On his website, he shares how he drops all expectations before each concert, to start anew every time. A Song of Yoga with the HA!Man therefore means a dive into the unknown - an exploring that starts with a Ha! and leads into a silence, with everything possible in between.

Yin Yoga
The calm, meditative but intense postures of yin yoga allow to sink deeper into consciousness, beyond the patterns of the mind. On the yogamat, physical sensations weave together with musical improvisations. The mind becomes quieter, opening space to meet the music and poetry in the heart.

Practical info
The 'Stadshout Paviljoen' shelters a piano, the yoga mats find space on a stone underground, under the open sky. If rain is forecasted, two hours in advance an email will be send whether the yoga concert will take place (tickets can be refunded or exchanged for another yoga concert). A cancellation will be announced on the website and Facebook as well.

Bring your mat, and if you like some props like a pillow, block and/or a blanket. Instructions and poetry will be bilingual. From 18:45 onwards you are welcome to find your spot. Parking places for cars are available along the street/bike road along the park, parking is free from 19:00 onwards. The Amstel park is open until half an hour before sunset.
