Update - Fun At First Sight!

Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this event based on my experience.

The event was advertised as a women-only speed dating event, so I found it very inappropriate and unprofessional that the male organizer made me feel like he was flirting with me throughout the evening. Whether or not that was his intention, it made me feel uncomfortable and changed the atmosphere of the event. As attendees, we expect the organizer to facilitate a safe and welcoming space, not to make participants feel like they are being approached by the person running the event.

I felt uncomfortable enough that I decided to leave before the post-event drinks instead of staying to socialize.

After the event, I also heard from another attendee that she had experienced something similar. While I can’t speak for her experience directly, it made me feel that what happened to me may not have been an isolated incident.

I also noticed what seemed to be dismissive or uncomfortable behavior toward some of the trans women attending. Whether intentional or not, it did not feel like the inclusive and safe environment that a queer dating event should provide. If someone is organizing LGBTQ+ dating events, they should understand the importance of creating a space where everyone feels respected, included, and comfortable.

From an organizational standpoint, the event also lacked structure. It seemed like only one person was trying to manage everything, and because of that we didn’t even get the chance to meet every participant, which defeats one of the main purposes of speed dating.

I’m sharing this feedback in the hope that future events improve. Professionalism, inclusivity, and participant safety should always come first. Unfortunately, based on this experience, I will not be attending any future events organized by this team.
