We leven in een wereld van chaos en verdeeldheid. In een wereld die steeds verder van de natuur verwijderd en uit balans lijkt, is er een grote behoefte aan een ander perspectief, dat van harmonie en herverbinding.
Deze film legt de essentie van de unieke en eeuwenoude KIVA-ceremonie vast, waar leiders van inheemse volkeren uit de hele wereld samenkomen voor vrede, gelijkheid en herverbinding met de aarde. ‘De oorspronkelijke volkeren zijn het contact met de natuur nooit verloren en kunnen ons inspireren om een meer verbonden en duurzame manier van leven te creëren’, zegt filmmaker en fotograaf Marijke Kodden. Zij kreeg - als een van de eersten en weinigen - toestemming om de unieke KIVA-ceremonies in Mexico, India, Nederland en Duitsland vast te leggen. Samen met Rakinah Buttner en Jaap Verhoeven maakte zij deze indrukwekkende documentaire. Het is een hoopvolle boodschap van de inheemse volkeren, die inspiratie biedt, hoe we onze relatie met de aarde én elkaar kunnen herstellen. Terug naar balans, community en samen.

Synopsis KIVA-documentaire:
In 1968 kreeg medicijnman Raymundo Tigre Perez (Mexico/VS) een visioen. Hij zag inheemse Wisdom Keepers van over de hele wereld verenigd in een cirkelvormige put – met een vuur in het hart – een ceremonie uitvoeren voor de aarde, voor vrede en het welzijn van alle levende wezens. Pas later ontdekte hij dat dit een KIVA was, een oude ceremonie die 3000 jaar geleden al door de Anasazi werd gehouden. Honderden inheemse Wisdom Keepers beantwoordden zijn oproep en deze KIVA-ceremonies vinden al meer dan 30 jaar over de hele wereld plaats. De KIVA-ceremonie is een collectieve oproep van de oorspronkelijke inheemse volkeren. Ze hebben het contact met de natuur nooit verloren en met hun eeuwenoude wijsheid kunnen ze ons inspireren om over te stappen naar een meer verbonden en duurzame manier van leven. Na de film ontmoet je drie Inheemse Elders die hun wijsheid delen. Daarna is er gelegenheid om vragen te stellen aan de Elders en filmmaker Marijke Kodden.

Cheryl Angel (Lakota Elder - VS)
Een van de speciale gasten deze avond is Wisdom Keeper Cheryl Angel uit Amerika. Cheryl is een inheemse leider en eerbiedwaardige Lakota-Elder (Sioux). Zij is ‘Water Protector’ en met de slogan ‘Water is Life’ is zij een van de oorspronkelijke peilers geweest van het geweldloze verzet van het Lakota-volk bij Sacred Stone Camp/Standing Rock. Zij zal spreken over het ‘7 Generatie Principe’: door generaties voor en na ons in onze besluitvorming mee te nemen, kunnen we zorgen voor een duurzamere wereld voor onze kinderen en kleinkinderen.

Carola Esparza (Mapuche traditie - Chili)
Carola is geboren in Chili, aan de voet van de Andes. Zoals veel Chilenen is ze van gemengd bloed, als gevolg van de kolonisatie van Chili door de Spaanse veroveraars. Al 15 jaar treedt ze in de voetsporen van Dona Rosa Huenufil, een Mapuche-grootmoeder, bewaarder van de Mapuzungun (de taal van de aarde), die haar de heilige kunst van de gebedsvrouw (Guillipullera) leerde. Carola Esparza is een echte vredestichter, sterke communicator vanuit het hart. Mensen ondersteunen om de communicatie van het hoofd naar het hart te ‘verplaatsen’, zodat ze elkaar beter kunnen begrijpen. Om vrede in elkaars hart te brengen

Elder Rutendo Ngara (Zuid Afrika)
Ze staat ook bekend als Neterteri Meska, Feng Xian of Lapo’Mhlaba en ze is een wever, niet alleen van wandtapijten. Een wever tussen de sterren, het milieu, de samenleving en alle aspecten van de natuur. Als ze alle Afrikaanse inheemse kennis belangrijk vindt als bewaarder van wijsheid, dan bouwt ze een brug tussen systemen als spiritueel coach, priesteres, waarzegger en raadgever. Ze ziet zichzelf echter niet als een genezer, maar eerder als een spiegel die de zon reflecteert, die anderen aanzet tot hun eigen genezende superkrachten. Rivieren zijn haar rustpunt, bossen haar kracht, bergen haar steunpilaar. De zoektocht naar harmonie, samenleven en complementariteit ligt ten grondslag aan haar inspanningen. Ze is medeoprichter van Ancient Wisdom Africa en Ancient Wisdom Foundation.

We live in a world of chaos and division. In a world that seems increasingly distant from nature and out of balance, there is a great need for a different perspective, that of harmony and reconnection.
This film captures the essence of the unique and ancient KIVA ceremony, where indigenous leaders from around the world come together for peace, equality and reconnection with the earth. “The original peoples have never lost touch with nature and can inspire us to create a more connected and sustainable way of life,” says filmmaker and photographer Marijke Kodden. She was one of the first and few to receive permission to record the unique KIVA ceremonies in Mexico, India, the Netherlands and Germany. She made this impressive documentary together with Rakinah Buttner and Jaap Verhoeven. It is a hopeful message from the indigenous peoples, which offers inspiration on how we can restore our relationship with the earth and each other. Back to balance, community and together.

Synopsis KIVA documentary:

He saw indigenous Wisdom Keepers from all over the world gathered in a circular pit – with a fire in the heart – performing a ceremony for the earth, for peace and the well-being of all living things. Only later did he discover that this was a KIVA, an ancient ceremony held by the Anasazi 3,000 years ago. Hundreds of indigenous Wisdom Keepers answered his call and these KIVA ceremonies have been taking place around the world for over 30 years. Cheryl Angel (Lakota Elder - USA)
One of the special guests this evening is Wisdom Keeper Cheryl Angel from America. Cheryl is an indigenous leader and venerable Lakota Elder (Sioux). She is 'Water Protector' and with the slogan 'Water is Life' she was one of the original pillars of the nonviolent resistance of the Lakota people at Sacred Stone Camp/Standing Rock. She will speak about the '7 Generation Principle': by including generations before and after us in our decision-making, we can ensure a more sustainable world for our children and grandchildren.

Carola Esparza (Mapuche tradition - Chile)
Carola was born in Chile, at the foot of the Andes. Like many Chileans, she is of mixed blood, as a result of the colonization of Chile by the Spanish conquistadors. For 15 years she has been following in the footsteps of Dona Rosa Huenufil, a Mapuche grandmother, keeper of the Mapuzungun (the language of the earth), who taught her the sacred art of the woman of prayer (Guillipullera). Carola Esparza is a true peacemaker, strong communicator from the heart. Supporting people to 'move' communication from the head to the heart, so that they can understand each other better. Elder Rutendo Ngara (South Africa)
She is also known as Neterteri Meska, Feng Xian or Lapo'Mhlaba and she is a weaver, not just of tapestries. A weaver among the stars, the environment, society and all aspects of nature. If she considers all African indigenous knowledge important as a keeper of wisdom, she builds a bridge between systems as a spiritual coach, priestess, fortune teller and counselor. However, she does not see herself as a healer, but rather as a mirror reflecting the sun, inspiring others to develop their own healing superpowers. Rivers are her resting place, forests her strength, mountains her pillar. The search for harmony, coexistence and complementarity underlies her efforts. She is co-founder of Ancient Wisdom Africa and Ancient Wisdom Foundation.
