🪶 HAPAYA & RAPÉ RITUAL — WITH PAJÉ TXANA TUWÉ 🪶

Dear people,

On Thursday 15 October, we invite you to a special afternoon and evening with Pajé Txana Tuwé and his Huni Kuin family from the Brazilian Amazon, hosted here in the Netherlands. 🌿

🪶 ABOUT PAJÉ TXANA TUWÉ

Pajé Txana Tuwé is a spiritual and cultural leader of the Huni Kuin people, born and raised in Novo Futuro Village, along the Humaitá River in Acre, deep in the Brazilian Amazon. He is also described as a musician and teacher within his community.

Tuwé began learning the spiritual traditions of his people from a young age. Sources describing his work say that his path has included learning from elders, periods of traditional plant diets and study in the forest, and developing knowledge of Huni Meka sacred chants, medicinal plants and Huni Kuin spiritual practices.

An important part of his work is also transmission to the younger generations. He has been teaching cultural and spiritual practices to children and young people in his village, helping the knowledge, songs and traditions of his people continue into the future.

Since 2019, Tuwé has also travelled internationally, including through Europe and Africa, sharing Huni Kuin songs, culture and teachings outside the Amazon.

His work reaches beyond ceremony. while supporting projects connected with food sovereignty, access to clean water and cultural continuity for communities along his river.

For this gathering, Tuwé will share Hapaya, Rapé, prayer and sacred music. It is an opportunity not only to receive these traditional practices, but also to meet him and his family, listen to their songs and learn directly from a living tradition that continues to be carried from generation to generation. 🌿🪶

From 17:00 until 21:30, we will gather for a Hapaya & Rapé ritual, accompanied by sacred songs, prayers and traditional teachings of the Huni Kuin.
🦜 ABOUT HAPAYA

Hapaya is a traditional Huni Kuin practice connected with the voice, sacred singing and the spirit of the bird. Within their tradition, it is used in connection with Huni Meka — their sacred songs and prayers.

You do not need to be a singer or already walk with these traditions to receive Hapaya. The ritual can also be approached simply as an opportunity to explore your own voice, expression and presence.

Hapaya is traditionally understood as supporting:

✨ Opening & strengthening your voice — exploring your voice more freely, whether through singing, speaking or prayer.

🔥 Standing with more presence — supporting confidence in being seen and heard and expressing yourself with greater presence.

🗣️ Expression & confidence — creating space to move beyond hesitation around using your voice and to express yourself more openly.

🎶 Connection with song — for singers and those drawn to music, it can support a deeper relationship with listening, rhythm, singing and prayer.

🌳 Ancestral connection & memory — within Huni Kuin tradition, Hapaya is associated with ancestral knowledge, memory and teachings carried through generations.

👁️ Clarity & deeper listening — inviting you to listen more closely to yourself, your voice and what wants to be expressed.

🪶 Learning to carry sacred songs — for those already walking with these traditions, Hapaya can be received as part of learning and carrying songs with respect, integrity and intention.

You don't have to know the songs or follow this tradition. You can simply come as you are, receive the ritual, and explore what it means to open your voice and stand more fully in your own presence.

🦜 Hapaya is traditionally connected with the voice, memory, expression and the sacred songs — the Huni Meka. For those who would like to receive the Hapaya ritual, we recommend arriving between 17:00 and 19:00.

Afterwards, we will continue together with Rapé, prayer and live sacred music, creating space to sit, listen, sing and connect with the teachings the family carries from their tradition. 🪶🔥
