Over dit evenement
Dear people,
Welcome to an evening of uniting our voices, of liberating ourselves through being heard and hearing each other. This evening will be filled with 'heart songs'; songs that have unity, heart opening and liberation as intention. There might be a Sanskrit mantra here and there, but mostly this will be (self-written & widely known) English songs from the heart.
🌺Why a singing circle?
A singing circle is all about letting yourself be heard and connecting to yourself and others. There is incredible liberation in finding the courage to speak your truth (in singing circles, this translates to your unique sound - regardless of how it sounds) and being received in that! This is what a singing circle can do. You let yourself be heard as you are. The group needs and takes in your unique sound!
This creates the feeling of deep belonging. All our individual voices become one and this creates a powerful feeling of unity. The repetition of the same words, often found in the chorus of the heart-songs gets you into a flow state.
Ancient tribes all over the world still sing and dance together; it's their way of connecting to each other beyond identity and talking. In the western world we have forgotten the incredible connective power of making music together - but singing circles bring some of this magic back! Come experience the magic of singing together and let yourself be carried away!
🌺An overview of the evening & practicalities
18.00 until 18.30 - Doors are open
18.30 - We start with a short meditation and some exercises that help you with opening your throat for singing
19.15 - We start with the singing circle. Everyone receives a 'heart-song-booklet' with the text of every song in it. There will be different instruments you can use to contribute to the songs with!
We will sing approximately until 21.15, with a snack-tea-chat break in the middle..
21.15 - Time to chill. I find it very important that there is enough of a community feeling during the night. Time to get to know (new) like-minded people is so valuable on a night like this!
There will be lovely, healthy, home-made snacks during the entire evening
Location: Karunika spiritual centre, Meerhuizenplein 38, Amsterdam
🌺About Liza, the facilitator
I have been singing my entire life. It's my favourite way of getting out of my head, into my heart. I have been leading singing circles for the past 3 years. I write songs myself, based on she struggles I go through and the liberation (or not..;)) I find in them. It's a way of therapy for me . I also love playing existing songs from, for example, Xavier Rudd, Sam Garret and Fia.
I have learned the hard way how much performative pressure singing has. There were many moments in my life where I stopped singing or performing for people, because I believed it was never perfect enough. Singing circles, for me, have helped me liberate me from this performative perfectionism. I hope to inspire you, with my imperfections, to dare to let yourself be heard... Regardless of how it sounds. Singing is an act of courage. Of letting yourself be heard.
I find the joy and liberation found in singing together unmatched. We're so used to talking being our no.1 way to connect with others. Yet there is a lot of magic in uniting our voices through singing; it's my goal to spread that magic with every singing circle!
🌺 I have never been to a singing circle / am not a (good) singer. Should I join?
This is one of the most asked questions I get about the singing circles, and I understand.
The way I see this, is that singing has medicine in it for everyone. Because everyone deserves to let themselves be heard and feel connected - and that's the core of what a singing circle is about. The intention of a singing circle is not to perform, to sound 'good' or hit every note; it's about finding the courage to let ourselves be heard - even if its just a little bit. And then experience the joy that is felt if you hear your voice blend in with everyone around you! You're as welcome and as valued as an experienced singer as you will be as a non-experienced singer.
I would love to see you there!
With love,
Liza
