HerStories Seminar - part 1: early evolution

HerStories a seminar in two parts about the ‘history’ of mankind from a women’s perspective. During two days, we will take a deep dive into ancient history to retrace supressed and forgotten stories. This is a collaboration between Raquel Haug and Shailoh Phillips

fairytales, myths and cultural motifs idealize men over women. These narratives, which are imbibed
along with mothers’ milk depict males as powerful and females as powerless. These stories passed on
from generation to generation, portray women not only as incapable of determining their own
destinies but also as decorative possessions to be acquired by men. When women in children’s tales
have some power, they are generally evil stepmothers or witches. So long before their critical
faculties are in place, children learn the insidious lesson in folktales, books and popular media that
women should not be entrusted with power.”

Raquel Haug has a wealth of knowledge and lived experience and has been studying female perspectives on (ancient) history for over 30 years.

Shailoh Phillips is a cultural anthropologist, philosopher and yogini in the tradition of Awakening Women Embodied Mythology, working with archetypes from ancient goddess myths from around the world.
