🤼♂️ MINDFUL MARTIAL ARTS 🌀
What happens when we approach grappling not as a fight to win, but as a field for exploration?
In this workshop, you will be introduced to various positions and dynamics which can arise during a grappling exchange, in a hands-on, playful and attuned way.
We are going to play with positions, techniques and movement principles from various martial arts – mainly judo, wrestling and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. We move through different energies, from slow and exploratory to playfully competitive.
Throughout the practice, we bring our attention to our own movement and breathing, helping us to stay present, regulate the intensity and move safely together.
From this place of attunement, we gradually work towards free grappling sessions, where curiosity, play and embodied learning take the lead.
🎒 What should I bring?
-comfortable (sports) clothes which allow for free movement
-water bottle
-leave jewellery at home, especially earrings
Optional:
-knee pads
-rash guard
-yoga pants or spats
💪 Fitness requirements:
This workshop is open to all fitness levels. We will, however, engage in full-body, full-contact grappling activities.
If you are recovering from a serious injury, this workshop may not be for you. Minor injuries can often be worked around, and guidance will be provided to help participants move safely and reduce the risk of injury as much as possible.
Please listen to your body, respect your own boundaries and communicate clearly throughout the practice.
Participation is at your own risk. The facilitator cannot be held responsible for any injury, damage or loss incurred during the workshop.
💰 Exchange:
Free donation. The more you give, the more I can dedicate myself to facilitating these workshops.
People usually donate around €20-35
✨ About the facilitator:
Léon van der Sande is a Movement practitioner in every sense of the word. He is constantly searching for movement in physical, emotional and energetic planes, and explores various methods to allow these aspects of our Being to converge.
His favourite tool is ‘stoeien’ – a Dutch word meaning something in between wrestling and rough and tumble play – which he bases on his wide knowledge and experience of various Martial Arts and Mindfulness traditions.
During his workshops, he opens a field of exploration in which he helps people to remember their natural strength and agility, become aware of their ego and to heal their relationship with learning.
Léon invites you to let go of your preconceptions about what you can and cannot do, surrender yourself to the unknown and open yourself to the magic of pure, performance-free learning. 🌱
