Attraction, connection, freedom & the stories we bring into relationships
We spend an extraordinary amount of our lives looking for love.
We date. We fall for people. We imagine futures together. We get attached. We pull away. We want independence, and at the same time we want to feel deeply chosen.
But underneath all of that is a surprisingly difficult question:
What are we actually looking for when we look for love?
Companionship? Attraction? Sex? Security? Belonging? Validation? Adventure? A family? Someone who finally understands us?
And how much of what we experience as “love” is shaped by our memories, expectations, fears and ideas about what another person should be?
In the fourth edition of Being Human, we’ll explore love not as a relationship problem to solve, but as one of the most revealing human experiences through which to understand ourselves.
We’ll look at questions such as:
Can we deeply want another person without needing them to complete us?
Why can uncertainty make attraction feel even stronger?
What is the difference between love, desire, attachment and possession?
Can intimacy and independence genuinely coexist?
Do we fall in love with people — or partly with the stories we create about them?
What would a relationship look like if neither person was responsible for making the other whole?
This is not a dating workshop, therapy session or relationship-coaching class.
Being Human is a space for philosophical inquiry, honest conversation and experiential exploration.
Expect a mix of short inputs, small-group conversations, reflective exercises and open dialogue with people you may never otherwise meet.
No knowledge of philosophy is required.
You don’t need to be single. You don’t need to be in a relationship. You don’t need to arrive with answers.
Just bring curiosity, openness, and perhaps one question about love or relationships that you genuinely do not know the answer to.
Phones down. Humans present.
Being Human is created by Passionate Philosophers / Maison Magnétique — a series of gatherings exploring some of the most ordinary and difficult questions of being human.
Previous conversations have explored conditioning, the lives we inherit, and whether we can really see another person beyond our projections.
This time, we turn toward love.
About Being Human
Being Human is an ongoing conversation series from Passionate Philosophers, an Amsterdam community of 2,000+ curious people exploring philosophy, psychology and the experience of being human.
Previous editions have brought together thoughtful internationals and locals for three-hour conversations around conditioning, life choices, projection and human connection. Each edition stands on its own, and newcomers are very welcome.
