Maté Nacht

Over dit evenement

🧉 🌙 Maté Nacht – Art Café
April 4 | Younity Utrecht
13:00 – 23:00
Maté Nacht is a monthly gathering where art, connection and creativity come together in a warm and welcoming atmosphere.
Inspired by the ritual of sharing maté, a traditional drink known for bringing people together, Maté Nacht creates a space where strangers become friends and creativity flows naturally. Our vision is simple: to offer a place where people can slow down, meet each other beyond social roles, and express themselves through art.
Rather than a traditional event, Maté Nacht feels like a living art café. A place where you can wander between creative spaces, participate in workshops, listen to music, share stories, or simply enjoy the atmosphere.
Everyone is welcome — artists, curious minds, and anyone who feels called to explore creativity.
This is a drug-free and alcohol-free event, creating a clear and grounded space for authentic connection.

You are invited to relax, meet people and explore the creative spaces while enjoying drinks and snacks from the bar. We will be serving our special Maté blends, prepared in the traditional way. 📚 13:30 - 23:00 | Book store | Arabic book store | Binyan Books

Binyan Books is an online bookstore offering a diverse selection of arabic literature, from contemporary works to educational texts. It makes arabic books more accessible to readers across europe and beyonde. During maté nacht you can explore and purchase a curated selection, bringing language, culture and stories together.

🎨 14:00 – 16:30 | Workshop | Creating in the klieder | Sterre Rosmalen

A creative workshop where playfulness and experimentation is key. Through curiosity, we combine simple materials, different shapes and textures, and let those lead us to fill in the smaller details. We try to forget what is 'clean' or 'pretty'. Nothing has to be anything, and anything can be everything.

📚 14:00 – 16:30 | Workshop | Meeting of words | Mustafa Al-Ramadan

In this workshop, words and the people who carry them come together. Every person holds stories, some long waiting to be heard. In a warm, open atmosphere, we give voice to what lives within us. By listening and sharing, we create real connection, a place where words can be heard and people truly meet.

🌀 15:00 – 16:30 | Workshop | MixedPerformanceArts Workshop & Jam | Damir Boeren

Let go of the boundaries of your discipline and find inspiration in unexpected places. In this workshop we explore what lives within us and give it expression through movement, sound and interaction. By combining artistic and physical practices, participants are invited to discover new forms of expression beyond traditional categories. After the workshop we will move into an instant composition jam, where spontaneous performances emerge from the moment. No prior experience needed — curiosity is enough.

🎧 16:45 – 17:45 | DJ SET | Arabic Melodic Techno | DJ ELTO

An extension of “Warak Sham”. Afro House and Melodic Techno infused with timeless Arabic melodies. Every drop carries meaning and every transition shapes a journey, balancing nostalgia, rhythm and fresh electronic energy.

🎶 18:00 – 20:00 | Live music | WARAK SHAM

Warak Sham is a musical album by Joseph Shami, composed by Joseph Shami and arranged by Dennis Netto, shaped by themes of identity, transformation, and memory. It brings these ideas into contemporary sound while preserving its Arabic roots without being bound by traditional forms. It is a work that invites deep, personal listening.

🎬 20:30 – 21:30 | Film | Between Vodka en Stroopwafel | Ali Taifour

“Between Vodka and Stroopwafel” In the quiet Dutch city of Utrecht, Alexei, a Russian immigrant, lives between two worlds, never fully feeling at home. Between a fleeting smile on the street and carefully structured daily rituals, an apparently simple reality begins to shift into a darkly humorous and lightly surreal inner journey, where small details turn into subtle tests of identity and connection. “Between Vodka and Stroopwafel” is a visual reflection on alienation, adaptation, and the fragile distance between what we feel and what we learn to show.

🧉 21:30 - 23:00 | Drinking Maté |

exchange of inspiration with each other At the end of the evening, we return together to a place of calm. The music softens and conversations deepen. In this closing circle, we share reflections and insights from the day, a moment of gratitude and connection, a quiet celebration of what Mate Night has set in motion.
