Over dit evenement

Queertied invites you for a playful, welcoming rope hangout where everyone can tinker, tie, tumble, and learn — at their own pace and on their own terms. Whether you like to knot, be knotted, self-tie, or try a bit of everything, this is a space to explore queerness, connection, and silliness with safety and care.

🌈 About Queertied:

In 2021, during the midst of COVID, Els (they/them) followed online yoga classes by queer yoga teacher Asa (they/them). One day the idea popped up to organise a rope event together to create a safe(r) space for queer individuals of all kinds to explore shibari. Then our partners and a number of amazing volunteers got involved with this journey too. Since November 2021 we have been hosting monthly events and even had the pleasure to teach at numerous festivals.

👥 About us organisers:

Asa (they/them) and Kai (he/him) focus on Japanese bondage, shibari/kinbaku and teach the beginners workshop. When they joined their first shibari bondage workshops in 2017, they were frustrated with stereotypical role division of men as dominant and the ones tying up & women as submissive and the ones to be tied. They want to show there is more fun to experience if you break free from such binary thinking.

Asa also teaches the stretching class to warm up your body and unwind your mind so you feel fit and ready for tying or being tied. They have been teaching yoga since 2017 in Belgium, The Netherlands and even Japan. From 2020 until 2023 they ran the online yoga studio Be Queerful with an aim to empower queer, trans and non-binary individuals through mindful movement and community.

Els (they/them) and Roel (he/him) have together decades of experience in various forms of bondage and occasionally teach an intermediate workshop. With their creative solutions around health conditions and disabilities they aspire to make bondage as inclusive as possible.

We also have a number of friendly hosts called Sunny (she/her), Ven (all pronouns) and Thijs (he/they). Depending on the month, one of them will welcome you at the door an make you feel at home as best they can. Expect them to scan tickets, answer questions, offer snacks/drinks and keep an eye on things Each of our hosts are ready to give you the best and most comfortable experience possible.

Together we strive for an inclusive setting that celebrates the diversity of our bodies through the intimate, playful and creative practice of rope play and bondage.

Everyone who identifies as LGBTQ+ or as an ally who respects queer spaces, including all genders, sexual orientations, races, abilities, and body types.

Where is the venue?

Small gym hall, about 20 minutes by public transport from Rotterdam CS. (Venue has metal ceiling beams and pull-up bars.)

Do I need to book or buy a ticket?

Yes—tickets are checked at the door. Contact organisers after purchase if you need level access.

Is there a beginners class?

Yes—every month there's an optional beginners workshop (20:15–21:00) covering safety basics, single- and double-column ties. Taught in English unless everyone present speaks Dutch.

Is there an intermediate class?

Sometimes—check the event details to see if one is offered that month.

What if I’m new or nervous?

You’re absolutely welcome here — everyone starts somewhere. We create a supportive, nonjudgmental space with clear safety guidelines so you can learn at your own pace. Join the stretching class to relax, try our beginner workshop, or ask our host or organisers to show you basics one-on-one. You can observe first, pair with another newcomer, or practice on yourself until you feel ready. If you’d like, tell our host or an organiser you’re nervous and we’ll check in, offer support, or suggest quieter times and spaces. Your comfort, consent, and boundaries come first — no pressure, no rush.

What should I bring?

Your own ropes and a rescue hook or safety scissors. Clothes you can easily move in; if you're being tied, tight-fitting clothing is advisable. Optional: extra layers/blanket, earplugs, snacks.

What if I don't have any rope?

Loan ropes are available. We also sell rope (€10 for 8m jute rope).

What if I don’t have a partner but still want to practice?

You’re welcome to practice on yourself or observe sessions until someone becomes available. We pride ourselves on the social nature of our events—many participants are quick to engage people who seem a little lonely or lost.

Will you guarantee I’ll find someone to tie with at the event?

No — we can’t guarantee every participant will find a partner. We do our best to create a welcoming, social environment and provide opportunities for meeting others, but pairing depends on individual availability, preferences, and comfort levels.

Are refreshments provided?

Coffee, tea, and soft drinks for sale. Bring chocolate or sugar if you expect you’ll need a quick energy boost.

Is photography allowed?

You may photograph your own work only with consent. Do not include others without explicit permission.

How can I get involved or volunteer?

We welcome volunteers for hosting, safety, teaching, and facilitation. Contact us via email or drop a message on FetLife.

Anything else I should know?

The event aims to celebrate diverse bodies and identities through playful, creative rope practice in a safer-space environment. We love feedback—if there's anything we can do to improve this event, drop us an email.
