Welcome to an evening exploring the nature of nature, and how our current way of doing science and making meaning can shift to account for all that has been left out and forgotten. Acclaimed author, organizer, and thinker Dougald Hine joins us for this special event at Salon Ruigoord.
A first of our new series, Feral Salon is a collaboration between the Feral Ecologies Lab and Salon Ruigoord, bringing you intimate dialog with the most engaged and undomesticated philosophers following the pulse of our zeitgeist of the great rewilding.
Salon Ruigoord offers in-house blended and brewed elixirs as well as more standard (alcoholic) fare. The evening also comes with the option of a hearty and lekker vegan dinner.
After Dougald's talk, an invitation for Q&A with the audience will follow, with discussants including anthropologist Judith van der Elst, climate psychologist Rembrandt Zegers, and environmental philosopher Yogi Hendlin.
About Dougald Hine
Dougald Hine is a social thinker, writer and speaker. After an early career as a BBC journalist, he co-founded organisations including the Dark Mountain Project and a school called HOME. He has collaborated with scientists, artists and activists, serving as a leader of artistic development at Riksteatern (Sweden’s national theatre) and as an associate of the Centre for Environment and Development Studies at Uppsala University. His latest book is At Work in the Ruins: Finding Our Place in the Time of Science, Climate Change, Pandemics & All the Other Emergencies (2023). He co-hosts The Great Humbling podcast and publishes a Substack called Writing Home.

From Amsterdam Sloterdijk Station, take bus 382 (direction IJmuiden via Halfweg).
Get off at the stop Ruigoord.
From there, it’s about a 10-minute walk down the Ruigoordweg to the village and the salon.
