Short Bio:
Shaykh Burhanuddin Herrmann is a contemporary mystic of an ancient tradition, initiated into
the Sufi path at a tender age. In his capacity as an educator, Sheikh Burhanuddin employs a
multifaceted approach that integrates methodologies derived from his Sufi tradition with
contemporary psychological insights. At the age of 18, Shaykh Burhanuddin had the privilege of
meeting Mawlana Shaykh Nazim al Haqqani ar Rabbani, the esteemed grandmaster of the
Naqshbandi Sufi Order, one of the most venerable and authoritative of the numerous extant Sufi
Orders. Under the direct mentorship of his Master, Shaykh Burhanuddin embarked on the
traditional dervish training, immersing himself in the sacred practices and spiritual teachings
passed down through the ages. He received a direct transmission of the Naqshbandi Sufi Order.
Shaykh Burhanuddin has been leading spiritual growth meetings and retreats all over the world
for more than three decades, thus serving the spiritual needs of people. He is the author of
three books, a musician, and the founder of the Dervish Orchestra.
About the retreats:
In Sufism, we say that goodness flourishes when people come together, highlighting the
importance of unity and collective effort in achieving positive outcomes. This is why a significant
proportion of traditional Sufi teachings is transmitted orally through Sohba (discourses), and the
methodology of Shaykh Burhanuddin's teachings is firmly anchored in his tradition.
Instrumental music and singing are an important part of the training supported by sound
meditations, the chanting of Divine names, known as Dhikr and other practical exercises. The
retreats also cover different topics, such as the dynamics of our intimate relationships, the things
that prevent us from growing spiritually, how to strengthen our connection with the Divine, Sufi
Cosmology and other Sufi practices and exercises for developing inner self-knowledge.
"We need happy people now. Only happy people can spread love, joy and peace. If you're not
happy, you'll only bring problems because you can't see the bigger picture. When you start to
work on yourself, you enter a different dimension full of light and a power that you cannot even
imagine now. You have the potential to become the centre of the world, and the world will
respond. If you're happy, your ego will weaken. "Shaykh Burhanuddin"
