In a world that is becoming increasingly removed from nature and seems out of balance, there is great need and longing for a different perspective, a perspective of reconnection, harmony and restoring the balance with nature and all living beings. This film captures the essence of a unique and ancient ceremony and a collective ‘Call’ from the Original Peoples. They have never lost touch with nature and with their Ancient Wisdom they can inspire us to a more connected and sustainable way of life! Wisdom that has been known for centuries, but has been lost to the general public.
On this 6th of October the afternoon is dedicated to connection and discovery. We begin with a warm welcome at Smile Health Tribe. Together, we move next door to Circus Hakim for the film screening. After the film, you will meet special guest speakers who will share their indigenous wisdom. This special afternoon will be musically accompanied by inspiring Medicine Singers who will share their indigenous music and stories. Afterwards, there will be an opportunity to ask questions to the guest speakers and filmmaker Marijke Kodden. Be sure to stay after the screening for a drink at Smile Health Tribe to connect with each other and conclude with indigenous music!
Synopsis documentary:
In 1968, medicine man Raymundo Tigre Perez (Mexico/USA) had a vision. He saw indigenous Wisdom Keepers from all over the world united in a circular pit - with a fire in the heart - performing a ceremony. A spiritual ceremony for the earth, for peace and well-being of all living beings. Only later did he discover that this was a KIVA, an ancient ceremony already used by the Anasazi 3000 years ago. Hundreds of native Wisdom Keepers answered his call and these KIVA ceremonies have been taking place around the world for more than 30 years. The KIVA ceremony is a collective call from the entire indigenous population: they have never lost touch with nature and with their ancient wisdom they can lead us to a more connected and sustainable way of life! And so the Wisdom Keepers carry out their final call through KIVA ceremonies all over the world. At the same time they bring healing and solutions through their ancient rituals, prayers and indigenous wisdom.
In this documentary we get a unique view of the KIVA ceremony, where indigenous Wisdom Keepers gather around a sacred fire and express their love via prayers, ancient rituals, songs and dance. But they also share their concern about the care for Mother Nature and humanity! Because of the moving prayers and the impressive conversations with the Wisdom Keepers – the viewer is invited to reflect upon how to heal our relationship with the Earth. ‘Because she is crying and is calling her children home!’
And so the Wisdom Keepers carry out their final call through KIVA ceremonies all over the world. At the same time they bring healing and solutions through their ancient rituals, prayers and
indigenous wisdom.
Marijke Kodden started filming at the unique KIVA ceremonies in the Netherlands in 2018 and traveled to the KIVA in Mexico, India and back to KIVA Netherlands in 2019. Many Wisdom Keepers were interviewed and together with best friend Rakinah Buttner and Jaap Verhoeven (who got involved in 2021 and is affiliated with KIVA Germany) a hopeful documentary was made, in which the KIVA shows us how we can heal our relationship with the earth.
(INTER)NATIONAL GUEST SPEAKERS / MUSICIANS:
* NATALY DE LA GALA (ANDEAN CULTURE, PERU)
One of the special guests is Nataly de la Gala from Peru, a guardian of ancient knowledge from the shamanic Peruvian Andean culture. She represents this knowledge in Europe and inherited it from her grandparents. Since childhood, she learned through their practices to heal the soul, help the body and transform the mind with shamanic energy medicine; offerings; cleansings, womb healing and sound healing. Nataly is the founder of NAT (Native Andean Transmission), an activation tool that attunes people to the shamanic path. Her work helps men and women on their spiritual awakening path and unlock their full potential. She shares her message and rituals at major venues such as TedX Amsterdam Women and the international Festival of Consciousness. In a powerful speech, Nataly shares her "language of love" and helps the audience remember their inner power.
* Yubeinu, Shãkuany en Maêje Txima - HUNI KUIN TRIBE (BRASIL)
We feel so honored to welcome the beautiful young couple Yubeinu, Shãkuany, and their grandmother, elder Maêje Txima, who will share their treasure of wisdom and ancient healing chants from their lineage of the jungle. Together, we will enter the sacred realm of their indigenous way of living in harmony with nature. This marks the first occasion for Holland to witness their profound commitment to connect other parts of the world with the Huni Kuin spirituality. Once threatened by external conflicts and diseases, their tribe is now being revived. They aim to share their culture, fostering mutual understanding and preservation. Despite progress, they face challenges like a lack of clean water and food. A project to build a fish pond is planned to provide healthy food for their community. During the KIVA event, ticket donations will support their important cause. It promises to be a cultural exchange which creates new perspectives for us in the western world. Let’s learn, sing, pray and open our hearts.
*RAPHAEL TIMPICO (SURINAM / NL)
Raphael Timpico is a representative of the indigenous Surinamese Kaliña culture. With his Indigenous Surinamese, Creole and Dutch background, he has taken a remarkable path in discovering his indigenous roots. His parents divorced when he was young and he grew up with his mother. Although he learned little about his indigenous roots, he knew he was part ‘Indian’. Bullied for his skin color, he wanted above all to feel Dutch. Spirituality played a big role in his Surinamese family, with family members able to see spirits. Seriously ill, he received a message from his ancestors through his formal teachter to reconnect with his origins. This led to a journey to learn more about his tribe and existence. His mission is to give a face to the forgotten peoples. During the event Raphael Timpico will perform the traditional dance of the Kaliña, carrying the energy, strength and wisdom of his ancestors.
* LAURA HJARTA (NL)
We are so blessed to announce that Laura will be present on the stage of KIVA! She is an amazing Medicine Artist who will share her musical expressions with us. She combines her passion for the traditional Amazonian music, with her own heartfelt songs from Dutch ground. Laura has a strong connection with Spirit and is guided by a strong force. The moment she starts to sing you will experience this deeper sense of truth and the longing to discover more. It’s Laura’s path to help others reconnect with themselves and especially with Mother Nature, by sharing her treasure of knowledge about medicinal herbs, plant and trees, her own made art-crafts, magical paintings and poetic lyrics. She will take you on a journey, are you ready to receive and explore?
* CO - ORGANIZORS OF THIS EVENING
This KIVA event in Haarlem is a co-creation of KIVA The Call of the Wisdom Keepers and two locals: Emma (Shãnu) and Fransje Voncken from Our Indigenous Memory. Connected by heart, both experienced a cultural immersion and personal spiritual study with indigenous peoples in the Amazonian rainforest. Fransje is a Learning & Development specialist with a mission: everyone has an indigenous memory that needs to be remembered. Emma’s journey is to co-create a more loving and healing collective field for all beings. Let us embark on this journey of healing and awakening together, working towards a more harmonious and connected existence for ourselves and future generations. We must undergo major changes that require wisdom and collaboration. Let’s create a dialogue with people who live in balance with nature and have answers that humanity seeks. We are honored to encourage this learning process during this KIVA-event in Haarlem.
Together we are building a new world!
