Birth of the Medicine Drum Ritual


You are invited on a powerful creative journey—through the cycles of life, the wisdom of nature, and the sacred Medicine Wheel—to create your own Medicine Drum: a healing instrument and guide on your personal path of growth.
This four-day workshop blends hands-on drum-making with deep inner work. As you build your drum step by step, you’ll infuse it with intention, connecting to the rhythm of your heart and the heartbeat of the Earth. Through rhythm, ritual, and ceremony, we awaken the voice of the drum—an ancient tool for healing, altered states, and remembering your essence.

We’ll move through the Medicine Wheel, exploring its four directions and the life-death-rebirth cycle:
* East (Air) – New beginnings, humility, curiosity, inner child
* South (Water) – Willingness, fluidity, transformation, death/life
* West (Fire) – Truth, endings, honesty, renewal
* North (Earth) – Wisdom, ancestors, harvest, gratitude

The drum becomes a living being—carrying your prayers, your journey, and your voice. It is both a ceremonial instrument and a companion for healing, meditation, and transformation.

* Building your own Medicine Drum from start to finish

* Sharing Circles
* Rapeé Ceremony (sacred tobacco snuff)
* Temazcal (Sweat Lodge) – a deep purification and rebirth ritual
* Integration journey with your completed drum

We’ll work with sacred plant medicines (Rapeé and liquid tobacco), and root into intentional, grounded creation. Together, we’ll listen deeply to the Web of Life—responding with presence, prayer, and rhythm.

During the workshop, each participant will create a unique medicine drum using a ceramic frame and their choice of deer or buffalo hide. These are traditional drums. Their tone can be adjusted by warming the membrane with fire, sunlight, or another heat source. Despite their simplicity, these drums are built to hold tension well, even in challenging conditions Like in the Sweatlodge.

* Day 1 (Thu) 9:00–20:00 – Opening Circle, intro to drum medicine, prepare hides
* Day 2 (Fri) 9:00–20:00 – Braiding, stitching, shaping the drum
* Day 3 (Sat) 9:00–12:00 – Lodge prep
12:00–late – Rapeé & Temazcal Ceremony
* Day 4 (Sun) 10:00–15:00 – Final touches, integration
17:00–21:00 – Closing Ceremony, voice & rhythm work
